ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Unicoi County Family YMCA celebrated the grand reopening of its pool on Thursday.

The pool had been closed for renovations but welcomed community members back after a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon.

"It's just something that not every community has," said Ted Cornelius, the executive director of the Tennessee Alliance of YMCAs. "It's a real benefit for this community to be able to enjoy this, and I'm so excited for the community to have an asset like this."

Cornelius said that having an easily accessible pool in Unicoi County is crucial for health and swimming instruction, especially given the numerous lakes and rivers in the region.
