Former prime minister Justin Trudeau may not have been wrong three years ago this week when he told former German chancellor Olaf Scholz in his moment of need just after Russia invaded Ukraine that there was no business case — and never had been — for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from our East Coast to Europe. Maybe there wasn’t. Maybe there hadn’t been. Maybe there still isn’t. But it’s not up to a prime minister to decide business cases. It’s up to businesses and business people to decide business cases.
