GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Daily Masses in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo took on a different tenor Thursday in the wake of a shooting in Minnesota that left two Catholic schoolchildren dead.

At the noon Mass at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Grand Rapids, one of the prayers offered was for the two children who were killed and 17 other people injured when a gunman opened fire at a church in Minneapolis Wednesday.

"My heart goes out to all the families involved in the shooting. This kind of violence is not OK in our society," one St. Andrew's parishioner told News 8.

During the service, Rev. Ryan Casey read the parable of the thief in the night, in which Jesus challenged his disciples to be spiritually ready at any time for his return and to continue to tend to his kingdom until that day.
