It’s difficult to believe that it has been 20 years since Hurricane Katrina made landfall, causing catastrophic flooding in New Orleans and along the Mississippi coast.
Today many are still dealing with mental, physical and financial issues created by the storm. I spent more than 10 days documenting the death, destruction and the resilience of the community. A reporter and I flew into Houston, rented a car and filled it with as much food and water as it would hold. We worked around the clock, sleeping in the car when and wherever we could, documenting the aftermath of one of this country’s worst disasters.
