EMORY & ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (D-VA) and Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) were in Southwest Virginia on Thursday and discussed Medicaid and healthcare in the state.
McClellan was in Abingdon for a tour of Mission Dental Virginia Incorporated's Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Center (AHCDC). According to a release from McClellan's office, more than 83% of AHCDC patients rely on Medicaid.
While in Abingdon, she discussed the potential impacts of the Trump administration's changes to Medicaid, which included a $1 trillion cut over the next decade. McClellan said this will have a significant impact on the "dental deserts" in Southwest Virginia.
