GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A mother grieving the loss of her 4-year-old son after he drowned in a Kent County lake says she wants her son to be remembered as more than just a statistic.

Silas Alan-Scott Palmer was found unresponsive July 25 at Long Lake Park, east of Kent City. Emergency responders tried to save him, but he died.

His mom Mikaila Palmer described him as someone who was always smiling. She said he loved dinosaurs, playing outside and his family.

“He was amazing. He was so smart and so energetic. No matter what mood you were in, he could always light up your mood and light up a room," she told News 8. "I just love him and I miss him so much. I wish I would have held him tighter that day."
