PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – One year after an invasive mosquito species was discovered in Oregon for the first time, health officials are warning that the insect was found in Jackson County for a second year in a row.
On Thursday, the Oregon Health Authority announced that Jackson County Vector Control and Jackson County Public Health identified Aedes aegypti mosquitoes for the second year in a row as part of routine mosquito surveillance.
State Public Health Veterinarian for OHA’s Public Health Division, Emilio DeBess, explained that the repeat appearance of Ae. Aegypti is a concern for Oregon as the species has been more common in warmer climates in the United States, Southeast Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands.
