BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A Bessemer man will serve 20 years in state prison after pleading guilty Thursday morning to killing a Mississippi man during a robbery that turned deadly.

Michael Webster was just 15-years-old when prosecutors say he shot and killed Michael Jones in May 2020.

Prosecutors say Jones drove from Mississippi to Bessemer to buy an iPhone that Webster was selling on “letgo,” an online marketplace.

However investigators say Facebook messages from Webster show he never intended to sell the phone. Instead, he was planning to rob any potential buyers.

Jones had been missing for two days when he was found shot to death in an abandoned home on Fairfax Avenue.
