Alberta’s Opposition NDP is weighing in on an update to the province’s oil-reliant budget as its deficit is expected to balloon to $6.5 billion.
The finance minister has said oil prices, along with uncertainty created by U-S trade policy, are hurting the Alberta economy and remain a significant risk.
But Opposition critic Court Ellingson says the budget is an example of “fiscal incompetence” and accused the province of being bad at handling its money.
Alberta has previously projected that multibillion-dollar deficits will remain through to the scheduled 2027 provincial election.
