KOKOMO, Ind. — A Kokomo man has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison after being convicted of setting a series of fires last year.

Joseph Smith, 30, was sentenced Wednesday in a Howard County courtroom. He had pleaded guilty to four arson counts related to crimes that occurred in 2024.

A judge sentenced Smith to 22 years in prison.

Court documents said the initial fire investigation involved four vehicles, two homes and a garage. In the case of a fire at a home on West Taylor Street, the blaze reportedly started in the back of the residence and would eventually spread through the home and to the roof. Those fires all occurred within a one-mile radius between 1:55 a.
