ATLANTIC CITY — The lone member of the city’s housing authority board urged residents to “empower themselves” in the first meeting since the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development took over the local agency.
“I don’t live in the developments, so I’m depending on you all as the residents to tell me how we can get better,” said Daniel Sherrod, a HUD official appointed to manage the authority's operations. “Your property managers and your maintenance superintendents are responsible for you all, and more importantly, they are engaging with you all. They’ve been empowered to be that difference you’ve been looking for. But it’s a two-way street; you are empowered to be the change in your communities.”
Dozens either gathered at the authority’s headquarters for the meeti
