SHERIDAN, Ark. – Many businesses in the Sheridan area are raising the alarm on an alleged raffle ticket scam.
The stores say a lady claimed to be with a nonprofit aimed at providing better care for kids, but the nonprofit denied any connection with the fundraiser.
One of the businesses is A1 LED, which says multiple workers purchased tickets.
Bliss Lites is a worker. She says they're upset, not about the money, but because they were lied to.
"It kind of took us a minute to be like that kind of sounded weird," Lites said.
She says the alleged scammer said "the prizes were like $3-thousand-dollars cash, deer stands and a trip to Branson."
Lites says the person claimed to be with the Arkansas Baptist Children and Family Ministries nonprofit organization.
