SUMMERSVILLE, WV (WVNS) - The Nicholas County Grizzlies finished 2024 with a 5-5 record followed by a first-round exit against Wheeling Central Catholic in the AA playoffs.

The start of the 2025 season will mark the first time in almost 30 years that storied head coach Gene Morris will not be leading the charge for this Grizzlies attack. Morris handed the reigns to new head coach Matt Morriston, who spent nearly a decade on staff with Morris in the 2000’s, before joining their middle school program.

Coach Morriston’s rise is certainly great for team chemistry.

“I have coached these guys Little League, middle school, and now I can have them in high school. I am excited. I coached under Gene Morris and learned a lot of things under him and I just hope to continue the good ways,” said Coac
