ROSE CITY, Texas — A motorcyclist died Thursday after crashing into the back of an 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 in Rose City.

The fatal crash happened around 5: 40 p.m. near mile marker 858, according to DPS Sgt. Shana Clark.

The preliminary crash investigation revealed that a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling west and stopped in the center lane because of traffic and was rear ended by a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Orange County Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner Jr. pronounced the man dead at the scene. The driver of the truck tractor was not injured

Witnesses reported seeing the motorcyclist thrown from the motorcycle during the crash.

The collision temporarily shut down I-10 in Rose City as authorities worked the scene.
