A 70-year-old inmate at the Lyon County Detention Facility was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in his cell on Thursday, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
The inmate, identified as Theodore Hamel, was transported to South Lyon Medical Center, where lifesaving efforts continued, but he was pronounced deceased. The death is classified as in-custody.
Authorities said there are no signs of foul play or suicide, and initial investigations indicate the death was medically related.
The Nevada Division of Investigations and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Coroner are conducting investigations. Hamel’s next of kin have been notified.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says that further information will be released at a later date.
