HANSON, Ky. (WEVV) — A proposal to implement mandatory garbage service in Hanson was voted down this week by city commissioners following strong opposition from residents concerned about rising utility costs.
The plan would have required all residents to pay approximately $40 per month for weekly garbage pickup. Many residents argued the fee would be a financial burden, particularly for those living on fixed incomes.
During a public hearing Tuesday, several community members voiced concerns about losing the option to manage their waste independently.
“They felt that they should have a choice whether they have pickup or not,” said Mayor Jimmy Epley.
