MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (GRAY) – As Minneapolis and surrounding communities reeled from the shock of a shooting on Wednesday morning, DFL leaders began rallying for action.

The party has made gun-control measures a priority in recent years; during their 2023-2024 legislative trifecta, the party passed red flag laws and a binary trigger ban (the latter of which was recently struck down by a county judge).

Party leaders are now calling for more.

“We need a statewide and a federal ban on assault weapons,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said at a rally on Thursday inside city hall.
