Crews are celebrating at the Langford Fire Station 2 after Thursday launched a welcomed change —getting a 24/7, round-the-clock, fully-staffed fire station for the first time.

Thursday afternoon launched having 27 paid full-time fire fighters on board, an initiative that started several years back.

The city has been working toward the milestone since 2017, when a fire service master plan first identified the need for 24/7 coverage. In 2023, council approved hiring nine new firefighters per year through 2025, after declining volunteer numbers made full staffing difficult.
