WACO, Texas — A man has been indicted for murder in the case of a deadly shooting in Waco in February .
According to documents from the McLennan County District Clerk's Office, 34-year-old Howard Lewis McCreary III was indicted by a Grand Jury on Thursday, Aug. 28 on a charge of murder.
McCreary is charged in the death of 44-year-old Randy Carpenter in February 2025.
The Waco Police Department previously said officers were called to an address on Grim Avenue on Feb. 22. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Carpenter, who had been shot, according to police. Carpenter was reportedly taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Police said McCreary was already in custody in the Bell County Jail on unrelated charges when he was charged with the murder of Carpenter.
