Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Jaime Harrison stated that members of former President Joe Biden's inner circle rejected his proposals for a Democratic brand study. Harrison made these comments during a podcast interview with California Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday.

Harrison expressed frustration, saying, "Now, some of the people in his universe at the White House did not always make it easy in terms of doing the things that I thought we should have been doing in order to strengthen the party, to rebuild the party's brand, to really engage in the social media aspect." He praised Biden as one of the most "pro-party" presidents in Democratic history, acknowledging his efforts to support state parties nationwide.

Harrison had envisioned creating a YouTube channel called "DTV" to promote the Democratic Party's narrative and showcase its successes. He aimed to highlight the party's diversity and engage with audiences on social media. However, he was told, "That's not a big priority right now."

Harrison believed a brand study was necessary because he felt the Democratic Party was struggling. He wanted to involve individuals from nonprofit and corporate sectors to assess the party as a political brand. He recounted being told, "No, we're not going to spend time on that," attributing the dismissal to some members of Biden's team who may not fully understand the party's needs.

After deciding not to seek re-election, Harrison was succeeded by Ken Martin, the former chair of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party, who was elected as the new DNC chair in February.

In a separate interview, Harrison argued that the Democratic Party should have supported Biden following the loss of former Vice President Kamala Harris to President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. Harris had taken Biden's place at the top of the Democratic ticket after he exited the race.

Following the release of an interview in January, Harrison contested a headline that suggested he believed Democrats should have "stuck with" Biden in 2024. He clarified on social media, stating, "This headline isn't right. Stuck 'by' and stuck 'with' are two different things. Yes, I believed we should have stuck by and defended President Joe Biden when he was our nominee, and at the same time when Joe Biden stepped down I was damn proud to fight for Vice President Harris to be our next POTUS."

Biden's office and the DNC did not respond to requests for comment.
