PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Portland Public Schools will release all students two hours early on Friday due to heat, PPS announced Thursday evening.
PPS said that despite steps taken to keep classrooms and buildings cool this week, some rooms have reached “unsafe temperatures,” and students and staff members have “experienced heat-related illness.”
Over the long weekend, PPS will work to:
Install more fans and cooling units in priority classrooms.
Inspect and adjust ventilation and airflow strategies in older buildings.
Coordinate with principals to establish cooling stations and emergency relief areas in schools.
Explore longer-term fixes such as reflective window film and shading to lower heat absorption.
