LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Whitney Austin, a survivor of a mass shooting, emphasizes the importance of unity and early intervention in preventing gun violence, urging everyone to play a role in making a difference.
Austin described her feelings of fear and devastation upon hearing about the mass shooting in Minneapolis, saying, "I'm a mother and that's like every American parent thinks, 'oh, my God, that could have been my children. That could have been my kid.'"
Austin has been working to stop gun violence since 2018, after founding the Whitney Strong Organization following her experience of being shot multiple times during a mass shooting at a bank in Cincinnati.
Her efforts have focused on prevention, educating people about responsible gun ownership, and distributing over 15,000 gun locks.
