GAYLORD ― Leading up to his debut game as Gaylord football head coach, Matt Silsbury was preaching a focus on fundamentals, not wins and losses.

Even still, a win like he just got in his first game leading the Blue Devils had to feel pretty good.

Welcoming in a strong North Branch team to start the 2025 season on Thursday, Aug. 28, Gaylord had to handle a potent option offense and move the ball on a strong Broncos defense. It wasn't pretty, nor was it perfect, but the Blue Devils did just enough to help coach Silsbury start his Gaylord tenure 1-0, defeating North Branch 21-14.
