ALEXANDRIA, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Louisiana State University of Alexandria has received a $1.2 million Healthcare Employment Reinvestment Opportunity (HERO) grant to grow its Associate of Science in Nursing program.
The funding from the Louisiana Department of Health will add evening classes with weekend clinicals, aiming to boost enrollment by 25% and create more flexible pathways for aspiring nurses in central Louisiana.
Nearly 500 nursing positions remain open in the region, according to LSUA’s School of Nursing. The grant will fund faculty hires, scholarships, stipends, and NCLEX preparation to maintain the school’s 95% or higher licensure exam pass rate.
