PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Peoria Fire Department rescued a driver trapped in a vehicle near the 1700 block of West War Memorial Drive on Thursday.

Fire crews initially had difficulty locating the vehicle because it was in a ravine in a wooded area, Battalion Chief Larry Carter said. It was eventually located 60 feet below the roadway, unstable and balancing on an embankment.

The driver was in the vehicle and having medical issues, Carter said. Crews worked to stabilize the vehicle and extricate the driver from the area. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The current condition of the driver is not known at this time.

Fire crews also assisted a towing company in removing the vehicle from the Ravine.
