Like a cartoon burglar tiptoeing to an exit, I thought I escaped.

Relief was on the horizon. That Aug. 8, 2024 column was deep in the past -- dust in the wind and everyone forgot. Leave it to my Uncle John from New Jersey to drop the anvil on my head at a late November family wedding.

He remembered. The scarlet letter under the headline “Auburn’s talking me into this. The Tigers could be legit in 2024” was fair game.

I blew it. I was wrong.

So, what does any self-respecting columnist do a year later?

Double down.

Turns out this is the year Auburn plays like Auburn again. That string of four straight seven-loss seasons ends this year as the seeds Hugh Freeze planted two years ago will yield crops in a Year 3 breakout.
