ESPARTO, Calif. —

New records obtained by KCRA 3 Investigates show that Yolo County was made aware in 2022 that fireworks were stored at an Esparto property where a deadly explosion occurred three years later.

The county previously confirmed that the property had not been zoned to store fireworks, but rather was zoned for agriculture.

In a statement to KCRA 3, the county board of supervisors said that in 2022, the building division was processing a permit for an agricultural storage building. They say that no fireworks or hazardous materials were observed in a visit that same year, and they were told the building would only be used for agricultural purposes.
