BALDWIN PARK — In what may end up being one of the best offensive shows of the season, Baldwin Park held off Covina 49-41 in a thriller on Thursday night.
The Braves had trouble stopping the Colts all night, but got the biggest stop with the game on the line.
With less than a minute left and the Colts on the Braves one-yard line, Francisco Navarro and Gregory Holland tackled Covina’s Gatsbee Gumban for a four-yard loss on third down.
On the next play, Baldwin Park freshman Shamar Lambert tipped the ball out the hands of a Colts receiver to sew up the win.
“Those guys stepped and made a good play to win the game,” Braves coach Robert Maxie said. “We weren’t going to let Gumban beat us and Shamar tipped that ball in the end zone. We’ve got some things to clean up, but that was a good win
