A British tourist who was stranded in Greece on a ventilator after a holiday insurance error has died leaving his family facing a huge medical bill.
Alan Kirby, 67, went into "septic" shock and passed away on Monday, his family have confirmed. The car valeter initially thought the pain in his side at dinner was from throwing his stepdaughter's children around in the sea in Zante.
But, as the Mirror reports, he sought medical advice when he woke up breathless. Doctors advised Alan immediately should return to the UK for a biopsy on a mass in his lung they feared might be cancer.
