ELYRIA, Ohio -- Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Westwood Elementary School in Elyria Friday after a parent reported seeing a man with a firearm. School officials immediately placed the building on lockdown as a precaution.

Deputies located the man, later identified as Daymarion Donte Whitten, of Lorain, sitting in a blue vehicle parked in the school’s visitor lot. According to a news release, officers tactically removed him from the car and conducted a search, finding a loaded 9mm firearm with an extended magazine under his seat. The weapon’s serial number had been defaced to conceal its identity.

Whitten, who has a prior felony conviction in Lorain County Common Pleas Court, was arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail. He faces multiple felony charges as
