PAHOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A beach park will be closed starting next Tuesday as crane dredging operations begin at Pohoiki Boat Ramp.

The County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation announced Thursday that the Isaac Kepookalani Hale Beach Park will be closed starting Tuesday, Sept. 2, to keep the public safe while the project is underway.

The work is part of an ongoing effort to restore ocean access by removing the sand and debris that accumulated during the 2018 Kilauea lava flow.
