RANCHO CUCAMONGA — Alta Loma never trailed Thursday, but the Lions had trouble putting away Los Osos.

Until they finally caught a break.

“I felt like it was the first break we got all night,” Alta Loma coach Tyler Perri said.

Alta Loma recovered a punt muffed by Los Osos with 2:20 to play, helping the host Lions preserve a 20-13 nonleague victory Thursday night.

While the city and district rivals have been playing nonleague games against each other for years, Thursday was the inaugural “Banyan Bowl” with a trophy given to the winner.

“That was a shave-five-years-off-my-life win,” Perri said. “That’s not how I want to play football.”

Alta Loma (2-0) won despite committing 18 penalties for 187 yards and losing two fumbles.
