MAYFIELD, Ohio -- Officers responded to Mayfran International on Beta Drive around 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25 for a report of man stealing copper wiring and throwing it over a fence at the rear of the property, where his car was parked.
The suspect left in his car when the caller approached him, but officers stopped it in the area. He said that he was just scrapping discarded wire, but the business subsequently confirmed that the wire was not scrap and had been stolen.
The Cleveland man, 35, was found to be a former employee of the business. He later admitted that he had been stealing the wire with the help of a current employee – a 29-year-old Cleveland man.
Both men were subsequently charged with felony theft as the estimated value of the stolen wiring was $5,234.
