Coastal destinations across Britain have experienced a spike in visitors travelling by train this summer due to the hot weather , rail operators have reported.

Stations in the North East, South East and East Anglia have seen a sharp uptick in passenger numbers in particular, the Industry body the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) said.

The RDG said the larger increase in demand for these coastal areas compared with other parts of Britain correlates with warmer temperatures encouraging more people to visit beaches.

Stations in the South East and East Anglia saw an increase of 32 per cent and 18 per cent respectively in June compared with the same month last year.
