A woman whose body was found at a Stockport beauty spot has been named as Nina Burgess.

The body of Ms Burgess, 52, who lived in Tameside , was found next to the Peak Forest Canal at Marple Aqueduct last Friday (August 22).

Emergency services attended the area at around midday following a report of a 'concern for welfare.'

Her body was found on the grass by the canal, the Manchester Evening News understands.

The aqueduct, located between Marple and Romiley, carries the lower level of the Peak Forest Canal over the River Goyt.

It was taped off with the public asked to avoid the area as an investigation into the tragedy got underway.
