The exciting highs and painful lows—all were right on display through the White Sox’s 25-year-old first baseman on Thursday night. Starting with a personal high, Miguel Vargas hit his first career grand slam, bringing his team back from a 4-0 deficit. He connected on a 2-0 sinker from Will Warren and also marked his first home run in August. However, three innings later, it was proven that highs can be fleeting when Vargas hit his painful low.

During the fifth inning, with Ben Rice on first base, Vargas attempted to catch a throw from third baseman Curtis Mead on a ground ball hit by Yankees’ captain Aaron Judge. He missed the ball, and his left hand hit Judge’s left thigh, bending back.
