In Brian Kelly's first year as LSU coach, preseason camp was meant to establish a new culture.

Year two was about reinforcing those habits. Last season, an emphasis was placed on improving a historically poor defense from the prior year.

This preseason, the tone was different again. Kelly and the Tigers' sole focus has been going 1-0.

"I feel like our mentality is just 1-0, it's Clemson," redshirt junior linebacker Harold Perkins said. "It's not (Louisiana Tech), it's not nobody underneath them. Our main focus and our mentality is to go 1-0 in week one."

Winning the first game of the season has become a major obstacle for LSU. The Tigers haven't won a season opener since 2019. Losses to Mississippi State and UCLA under Ed Orgeron have been followed by two defeats to Florida State
