SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Sacramento State University and Cal Expo are set to explore plans to convert the horse racing track and grandstand into a football stadium , with the goal of hosting Hornet football games at the fairgrounds by next fall.
Thursday marked the beginning of a new partnership between Sacramento State University and Cal Expo, as the California Exposition Board voted to move forward with the plans, a conversation that has been in the works since January.
"We've taken a number of steps here at Cal Expo to see about the feasibility of this," said Tom Martinez, Cal Expo CEO. "In order to do a project of this magnitude, this size, you have to have some studies take place."
