While there are plenty of island nations across the world, some are bigger than others. While Sweden might have the most islands of any country in the world , they don't hold the title for the country with the smallest inhabited island on the planet. That honor goes to the US with a unique island that's roughly the size of a tennis court, and yes, someone does live there at least part of the time.

Located in one of the most popular island chains in the country, the smallest inhabited island has an interesting tale and hasn't always had that title. Situated in the Thousand Islands region of New York State , just over the border from Ontario in Canada, this tiny island has one building and one tree, and is barely big enough for anything else.
