LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — For weeks, the question has been how the Fayette County School District will get out of a multi-million dollar hole.

School leaders hope the third time's the charm, after two other plans to find ways to make up a projected $16 million budget shortfall have, indeed, come up short.

Thursday night's special called meeting via teleconference had new ideas put on the table, erasing the past ideas of an occupational tax increase and taking the $16 million from the contingency fund, the district's emergency fund.

"In the future, there are plans that could really get us to a long-term, financially stable position; this year is not the year where there's wiggle room for that to occur," said Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins.
