The leaves are starting to change and drop in some areas across New England. But it’s not the recent cooler weather, it’s actually due to the dry weather stressing out the trees.

“Just all around really, but I’ve noticed a lot driving in the area as well,” Tamar Paikowsky said as she walked a dog through Cutler Park. “They’ve kind of been going brown already.”

A local arborist pointed out some stressed trees in Needham, Massachusetts, and said it’s a double whammy for leaf drop (or acorn drop). The rainy spring caused some fungal diseases and the expanding drought both contributed to the tree stress.
