SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- Firefighters are battling a blaze at a vacant youth center in the Mayfair neighborhood of San Jose Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. at the former MACSA Youth Center, a building that has been vacant for several years. Multiple ladder trucks are being used to attack the flames from above as firefighters work to contain the fire.

The MACSA Youth Center, which stands for Mexican American Community Services Agency, has been a focal point for community efforts to reopen it. The organization Somos Mayfair has been advocating for the center's reopening, emphasizing its potential as a community resource.
