Some were planned, some were unexpected.
A flurry of local restaurant closings have occurred in New Castle County over the past several weeks including well known national chains and long time local favorites.
"I can't answer for the reasons why a [specific] restaurant may close or not close, I think it's a lot of different reasons," said Carrie Leishman, President of the Delaware Restaurant Association. "This business is hard."
Leishman said there are many economic factors working against restauranteurs just like they are against individual families.
"As individuals it's the price of insurance, eggs, health care, the price of food in the grocery store, the price of energy is going up, imagine what that does for a small business like a restaurant," she said.
There's also labor costs.
