NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that took place in Stark County on Friday morning.

According to a release from the OSHP, the crash took place at around 6 a.m. on State Route 43 near Indian Run Road in Sandy Township.

Troopers say 22-year-old Michael Weaver was driving a BMW 528xi northbound on SR 43 and ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a tree and caught on fire.

Bystanders pulled Weaver out of the burning BMW before it became "fully engulfed in flames."

"Mr. Weaver was taken to Aultman hospital by Quad EMS where he was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash," the OSHP announced.

Mohawk Valley Fire and Quad EMS assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
