BEDFORD — Bridge 107 on Armstrong Station Road has reopened following structural repairs and inspection, the Lawrence County Highway Department announced.
The historic bridge, which spans Spring Creek, will continue to carry a 5-ton weight limit due to its age and structural limitations. Work included replacing hangers for the floor beams at all lower chord connections and repairing holes in the exterior gusset plates.
Because Bridge 107 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, any removal or replacement would require special permission from the National Park Service. Federal rules stipulate that if the bridge is dismantled, it must be done in a way that allows for reassembly at a public site.
