CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 32-year-old Chicago man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and more in a burglary and police shooting earlier this week in Englewood, CPD said Friday.

Barry Hayes has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, criminal damage to government property between $500 and $10,000, aggravated battery of a peace officer, aggravated assault of a peace officer and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, police said.

Hayes was arrested just after 5:07 a.m. Wednesday in the 5800-block of South Princeton Avenue, after driving a car toward a CPD officer and hitting the officer, police said.

Hayes continued driving toward other officers, hitting a marked squad car, police said.
