DALLAS — The Texas Legislature advanced a bill late Thursday that would block public access to most police complaints, including Dallas, where such records have generally been released upon request.
After Democrats stalled the bill with a procedural maneuver earlier this week, the Texas House ultimately gave final approval to the legislation after debating its possible implications for transparency and police protections.
Lawmakers approved two amendments, which means the bill will now return to the Senate for consideration of the changes. If the Senate approves the House version, the bill goes to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk to be signed into law.
