SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Police are investigating the death of a lifeguard after he fell into the pool at a Sevierville resort Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson with the Sevierville Police Department confirmed to News 2's sister station, WATE, that a lifeguard died at The Resort at Governor's Crossing. According to the department, officers and first responders arrived at the resort at approximately 12:24 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28 in regards to an emergency at the indoor pool.

SPD said the on-duty lifeguard had reportedly fallen into the pool and was unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were performed and the lifeguard was taken to LeConte Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The department identified the lifeguard as Colden Riner, 21.
