ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - A K-9 was stabbed multiple times while arresting an attempted murder suspect in York County on Thursday.

K-9 Apollo was hospitalized and, as of this writing, remains in stable condition. He is scheduled for surgery on Friday afternoon, and officers expect him to make a full recovery and return to duty once healed.

Records showed the suspect, 35-year-old Travonte Tate, was apprehended and faces a handful of charges related to the encounter. A list of those charges can be found at the bottom of this article.

What happened

The situation began around 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, when officers responded to a home on Martin Avenue in Rock Hill. A 56-year-old woman had reportedly called police, saying that Tate was attempting to stab her with a knife.
