DU QUOIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- The upcoming Ducky Derby Dash will support Special Olympics Illinois athletes in Southern Illinois.

Special Olympics Region K serves the 24 southernmost counties in Illinois, offering sports and leadership opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Fundraisers like the Ducky Derby Dash help provide opportunities at no cost to the athletes. The Ducky Derby Dash event will start at 1 p.m. on August 31, with the main duck drop at 3 p.m.

The Duck Ambassador will also make a grand entrance around 2 p.m.

On Thursday, Region K staff members and volunteers placed boom lines and other equipment in place to get ready for the event.
